OKC Thunder: Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Displays Superstar Ability

The Thunder fell short Monday night against the Lakers, but there was a lot to be happy about from the Thunder side. The Thunder fought hard while only having 8 players active for the matchup and took the Lakers to Overtime where they ultimately lost.

The Thunder young core was outstanding last night. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the charge with 29 points, 10 assists, and 7 rebounds. Darius Bazley had an incredible first half and ended up finishing the game with 21 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Hamidou Diallo also impressed, scoring 20 points and grabbing 11 rebounds.

Gilgeous-Alexander’s performance in the clutch was the most notable storyline from the night. Gilgeous-Alexander made a few incredible shots that left fans in awe all over Twitter.

Gilgeous-Alexander looked like a veteran in the clutch and looked much like Chris Paul with the shots he made. With the Thunder down 3 with a short amount of time left, Gilgeous-Alexander smartly and calmly pump-faked and drew a foul. He then proceeded to knock down all of the free throws with ease.

The tough threes that Gilgeous-Alexander made tonight and all season have been the most significant improvement of his game this season. Last season, Gilgeous-Alexander made most of his threes off of catch and shoot situations and lacked the strength to consistently score threes on the move. Gilgeous-Alexander improved his shooting tremendously in the off-season and displayed tonight his ability to take over games in the clutch.

The ability to take over games paired with Gilgeous-Alexander’s tremendous skillset gives him not only all-star but superstar potential.
