The Oklahoma City Thunder keep their season rolling along as they welcome in the New Orleans Pelicans and old friend Steven Adams.
The Thunder currently sit at a competitive 1-2, while the Pelicans come into the contest with a 2-2 record. However, the storyline tonight is not about the game. It’s really not even about the conclusion of this abomination of a year. It is about Steven Adams making his return to Oklahoma City.
It is incredibly sad that Chesapeake Energy Arena will not be sold out tonight to give Adams the return he deserves. Granted, this was the best and safest decision but sad nonetheless. Everyone is hoping that energy and passion will still be there whenever it is we get to pack the Peake for Adams’ *insert whatever number we get to by the time fans are back* return to Bricktown.
Steven Adams deserves all the kudos and hat tips tonight. Knowing his personality, I am sure at some point today we will get a viral Steven Adams moment no matter if it is during the game or in the Zoom postgame media sessions.
The OKC Thunder have played on New Year’s Eve every single year since moving to Bricktown. They are 10-2 on the Holiday, tied for the best record in the NBA on this day since 2008. Against the New Orleans Pelicans, the Thunder are 24-15 all-time!
Last year against the Pels, Thunder cornerstone Shai Gilgeous-Alexander averaged 20.3-points per game, 4.3-rebounds, and 3.5-assists. SGA sees an expanded role this year but now will have to deal with Steven Adams anchoring the New Orleans defense.
The Thunder have to take advantage of the minutes Adams is off the floor to get their offense going in this game.
The New Years Eve clash tips-off at 7 p.m. on Fox Sports Oklahoma.
The Locked on Thunder Podcast has a pregame show out now and will have your postgame show following the game! Find it anywhere you get your podcasts from!
